Together Reininghaus. Our time is our beer

Participatory exhibition

Starting in October 2026, a permanent exhibition on the history and evolution of the Reininghaus district in Graz will take shape at the district office located in the former malt house (Tennenmälzerei).

A new district has been under construction on the site of the former Reininghaus brewery since 2018; through the 2030s, the focus here shifts from brewing to building.

Amidst the newly constructed neighborhoods and the extended tram line 4, a few heritage-listed buildings serve as reminders of the site’s industrial past. They may spark curiosity among newcomers or stir memories for long-time locals: What used to be here? How do we experience Reininghaus today? What will this place look like in 2040? And which events from the brewery’s history and the district’s development will remain in people’s memories?

Together Reininghaus grows alongside the district, serving as a permanent hub for anyone wishing to learn more or engage with the area.

In this participatory exhibition at the district office, the history and stories of Reininghaus are collected and presented in collaboration with the local community across three narrative displays. The exhibition is designed to be mobile, allowing it to travel through the district and expand through interaction with residents. The content on display is as diverse as the history and stories of Reininghaus itself; we welcome further memories, additions, and questions from visitors at any time.

The exhibition also features the work “Mein Reininghaus – wo Heimat entsteht” (My Reininghaus – Where Home Takes Shape) by Gerhild Wieser, a project created as part of the 2026 Annual Group program at Fotohof Salzburg.
