Requesting a Historical Residence Notification

As a direct descendant or in inheritance proceedings (determination of heirs), persons with a legal interest can make an inquiry for information from historical registration documents. The Municipal Archives Graz keep the registration books (1876-1891) as well as the registration files (1892-1925) of the Graz police administration responsible at the time and, partly, the registration documents of some of the former surrounding communities in its holdings until 1938/45.
For information on more recent documents from 1926 onwards, please contact the Citizens’ Office of the City of Graz.

Research

Searching on a person can not be carried out by the users in most stocks of the Municipal Archives for data protection reasons. This applies in particular to documents containing birth cohorts of the last 110 years in combination with „sensitive data“ („special categories of personal data“). As a service for genealogically interested, we offer the possibility of a paid research request. The costs for the processing amount to 50 € per research hour, the billing takes place every half hour. It can be operated a maximum research effort of five hours.
