Archival Tectonics and New Cataloguing

In 2016, we began to recatalogue the inventory of the Municipal Archives Graz. The aim is no longer to systematize them according to thematic criteria, but according to archive standard according to provenances (principle of origin). From this, an archive tectonics was determined, which shows all the archival items of the Municipal Archives Graz in their context and which is already available in the GAIS . The description of the holdings and series thus begun follows the General International Standard Archival Description, ISAD(G), and is to be completed at this level by 2019. At the same time, work began on cataloguing holdings at file/collection and individual item level and supplementing them with digital copies. Prioritisation of digitisation follows frequent use and conservation considerations.

Digital Document Management and Archiving of Documents of the Graz Municipal Administration

In October 2017, Municipal Administration Director Martin Haidvogl launched a project to evaluate digitisation measures in document management with a view to future archiving. The goals are the legal clarification and development of standardized procedures for the integration of retro-digitized documents as well as the drawing up of a roadmap for the implementation of a digital long-term archiving system for the city of Graz.
