Führung am Staatsfeiertag

Spezialführung am 1. Mai

Die Kundgebungen zum 1. Mai wurden in Österreich 1933 verboten. Erst 1919 zum Staatsfeiertag ernannt, hatte dieser Feiertag der Arbeiterschaft in der beginnenden Diktatur keinen Platz. Zu sehr war er mit dem politischen Gegner verbunden und explosives Potential. Ein Jahr später, genau am 1. Mai 1934, wurde auch die neue Verfassung der autoritären Ständestaatsregierung erlassen und somit der Ersten Republik und der Demokratie an diesem symbolischen Tag endgültig ein Ende bereitet.
In einer Spezialführung in der Ausstellung „Im Kartenhaus der Republik“ erörtern wir die Rolle des 1. Mai in der Zwischenkriegszeit.
